ALL ABOUT

Get To Know Me

I left the great school Castle Head High at the age of 15 knowing that I had a keen interest in Human Biology, Science and Physical Education. This may have been the influence of competing in the sport of boxing since I was 12yrs old.

In 2004 the course of my life changed completely, as I decided to enrolling in further education through the application of a National Qualification in Sport and Recreational studies at Reid Kerr College. During this period of my journey, I was able to expand on my previous interests by completing modules in anatomical and biological science within the field of Sport. This solid foundation gave me the academic credentials needed to move forward with my education and enrol onto an HND Sports Therapy course at Central College of Commerce. This course took my interests of the human body to a whole new level. It was at this stage in my life I knew I had found my passion and drive for knowledge. Once I graduated with HND in Sports Therapy I began my own business, focusing on Health, Nutrition, Personal Training and Sports Injury. This thirst for knowledge didn’t stop there. I decided to take the plunge and apply to the University of the West of Scotland for their BSc Honours Degree in Sports Therapy. By 2009 I achieved what I thought was impossible by graduating with a BSc Honours degree in Sports Therapy. This gave me the will and confidence to setup my own Sports Injury clinic.

Throughout the years of further study, I continued to compete in the sport of boxing, where I was able to achieve 4 Scottish titles and compete internationally for Scotland on several occasions. Achieving these unthinkable sporting accomplishments allowed me to turn professional in the sport of boxing in 2007.I had the gratifying experience of being a professional athlete for 5yrs before retiring in 2012. My journey was not all sunshine and rainbows though as I had to go under the surgical-knife 5 times due to unforeseen shoulder complications. On reflection, I was thankful for these operations as they heightened my interest in the pathophysiology of soft tissue injuries and the management of post-operative orthopaedic conditions.

These interests along with the burning desire to continue learning, inspired me to make a bold decision and stop working as a Sports Therapist and go back to university to study a BSc Honours Degree in Physiotherapy at Caledonian University in Glasgow in 2011. Through hard work, dedication, some coffee and a lot of chocolate I managed to graduate in 2015 with a BSc Honours Degree in Physiotherapy and become a certified medical professional.

Since 2015 I have been running my own private physiotherapy clinic, specialising in musculoskeletal conditions. During which time I have had the jammiest of luck working alongside some of Scotland’s most knowledgeable and highly respected physiotherapists, who taught me so much about the profession.

Carrying on with my weird and wonderful desire to continue learning, I was accepted on to a Master’s degree programme in Advanced Practice at Caledonian university in 2020. When I told my wee mum that I was going back to university yet again she said I was like Peter-Pan, in that I never wanted to grow up. After writing down my journey I can see how true that sounds haha.
